Thursday, July 27, 2023 –United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala now says opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto can hold their talks if they have agreed to meet.
Speaking from Vihiga County where he went to preside over distribution of the second phase of subsidized fertilizer, the UDA Party Secretary General SG noted that any agreement between Ruto and Raila is welcome as long as the country realizes peace, unity and development.
He said this despite him being among the vocal UDA Party politicians who have not been soft on Odinga’s continuous pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government.
“We want unity of the nation and the President is ready to speak to everybody. We are working to fulfill our promises. We have no issue with President meeting and talking with the the opposition.
“We actually have no problem with the president if he can create time to talk to the opposition leader. It’s not yet time for politics.
“We are now interested in peace and development and that is why we came here in Vihiga to ensure subsidized fertilizer is available for our people,” he told NTV reporter, today.
Area Governor Wilber Otichilo seized the opportunity to steer clear of any politics and thanked the head of State for keeping his promise of fertilizer in his county.
“President William Ruto was here for subsidized fertilizer for this second season of farming and he has actually brought this. The fertilizer has now arrived,” he confirmed while encouraging his constituents to go back to their lands for this planting season saying rains are enough for the exercise.
Emuhaya Member of Parliament MP Omboko Milemba used the opportunity to laud the head of State for hiring at least 55,000 in a record eight months.
He, however, said, salaries of teachers had delayed due to the delay of the news CBA which will be ready next month and salaries will follow.
He also thanked the head of State for the cheap fertilizer now available in the county.
According to Mr. Malala, who also sits in the current Cabinet, today alone, a total of 18,000 bags fertilizer of sh 2,500 per bag was released to Vihiga farmers.
He noted that, previously, the fertilizer was retailing at sh 3,500 what the president has moved it down to now sh 2,500, only.
