Friday, July 28, 2023 –Outspoken Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has faulted the government for not being conversant with the current Constitution.

Speaking on Citizen Tv Tuesday show hosted by Trevor Ombinja, the politician pointed out several instances the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who happens to be a senior lawyer, had missed to adhere to the 2010 Laws as stipulated in the new Constitution.

Mr. Sifuna challenged the Interior CS to consider doing refresher courses so that to understand the new Constitution well.

“You say you have gone to the ICC. You are an international lawyer but you don’t understand basic Article 37. These people were professors in Moi Constitution. Kindiki has to, therefore, go back to school because he has Nyayo Constitution still stuck into his head,” Sifuna claimed.

He also wondered how this government cannot understand simple law on the rights to picketing because the words used there are not only clear but also common knowledge.

Sifuna was responding to Senator Boni Khalwale’s remarks that he(Sifuna) was a low cadre lawyer who has never represented any high-profile client in and outside the country.

Khalwale had pointed out that, unlike Sifuna, Prof Kithure who is the current Interior CS had taught law in the university and represented clients upto the international level at the Hague.

The panel was discussing the manner in which this government was handling the ongoing opposition demonstrations.

The ODM secretary general also used the opportunity to demystify the myth that only Parliament can handle the opposition grievances. He claimed that the current Parliament had lost value and purpose since it had been captured by the State.

He, therefore, officially ceded his position in the Bipartisan talks to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
