Friday, August 4, 2023 –Amid calls by political class to have international court ICC revisit Kenya over the ongoing protests, a key official from the Hague-based court Karim Khan has landed in the country.
News about the Chief Prosecutor landing in Kenya emerged today Friday August 4 with sources confirming that he is set to visit Mount Kenya University MKU for their 23 Graduation Ceremony where he will also receive an Honorary Degree.
On arrival in the country on Friday August 2, the 50-year-old prosecutor and lawyer by profession who represented William Ruto in the International Criminal Court ICC was received by the Mt Kenya University founder, Dr. Simon Gicharu.
“Mount Kenya University has nominated Karim A. A Khan for the conferment of honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) during the 23rd graduation ceremony in recognition of his broad contribution to the rule of law and international justice,” MKU noted.
The honorary conferment is meant to recognize Khan as an international criminal law and human rights lawyer.
His service at the highest global court has helped realise justice against acts of terrorism as well as his unmatched research in the legal field.
Mr. Khan was elected as the new ICC prosecutor for a nine-year term starting on June 16, 2021; and is remembered for representing the current president William Ruto in the ICC when he was charged with crimes against humanity together with former Head of Public Service, Francis Muthaura and retired head of StateUhuru Kenyatta.
President Ruto, just like his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta, were later acquitted of their charges in 2015.
Mount Kenya University MKU has praised the prosecutor for his commitment in the profession of law and diligent commitment in the fight against terrorism across the world.
