Ruto: These are the Items I can Discuss With Raila

Monday, August 7, 2023 –President William Ruto has items he can dialogue with the opposition and some which he cannot allow to negotiate with the opposition.

Speaking on Inooro Tv from Sagana State Lodge on Sunday August 6 night, the President stated that he will not be allowing his team to discuss extra-parliamentary issues with the opposition.

He added that law must guide every step taken by the Bipartisan dialogue team which is scheduled to start its sessions anytime soon.

Dr. Ruto said that he will not allow any form of Handshake with Odinga and neither will he allow to talk about the cost of living. He also added that destructive demonstrations are what his administration will stop at the earliest time possible.

“About reconstitution of the IEBC laws, we can make it from Parliament so that we have new commissioners of IEBC.

“I don’t want my party person to be the IEBC chairman. Elections are decided on the ballot not IEBC commissioners who are mere secretaries in the whole exercise,” he told the host.

President Ruto said, he will only allow discussion surrounding establishment of 2/3 gender rule because women in this country have, for many years, been shortchanged when it comes to holding positions.

He also listed improvement in Constituency Development Fund CDF which he explained has been key in supporting education around the country.

“About cost of living, I asked the opposition to go and tell Kenyans how putting on sufurias on their heads can lower the cost of living.

“For us, we have asked Kenyans to go to their farms because we understand that is how we can have food in this country,” Ruto added.

He also said the issue surrounding opening or auditing of the August 9 electoral servers is not under his purview because election was decided and declared in a formal way by both the IEBC and the Supreme Court.

The head of State, therefore, warned Azimio la Umoja camp against any attempts to resume destructive street protests.

But the opposition leader Raila Odinga, has already warned that should talks fail for the second time, he will announce full resumption of protests.

Odinga has also advised the State to stop threatening him but, instead, take seriously the planned talks so that this can be concluded within 30 days.

The Azimio boss said he is not interested in another Handshake and that cost of living must be part of the agenda in the planned government-opposition dialogue.
