Friday, August 11, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Party has announced a new way of protesting; in its bid to reduce police brutality and killings in the country.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga who, on Friday August 11, led a requiem mass for victims of police brutality in Nyanza, announced that the State, using its instruments of violence, had taken advantage of his harmless supporters to visit havoc on unarmed supporters especially around Nyanza Region.
Speaking in Bondo today, Mr. Odinga said they have come up with a new way where they will order Kenyans to remain indoors as a way of piling pressure on the William Ruto’s administration to obey the law.
He said that the opposition will stop at nothing else but to make sure the plight of all Kenyans is heard and addressed through Constitutional means that can be achieved through both demonstrations and objective dialogue.
Among the methods to be used is to next direct supporters not to leave their homes and to stop those attempting to leave homes for a certain period of time.
“We cannot be cowed, because it is our responsibility to liberate our country.
”We can tell our people to stay home, that is another way to express disaffection, next time we shall not tell people to come out, we will tell you to stay at home and stop anybody who is trying to come out,” Mr Odinga said with MPs allied to his camp threatening to start a motion of removing Inspector General of Police IG Japhet Koome from office.
They accused Koome of failing on his mandate to protect peaceful protesters during the recent anti-State demonstrations.
He was speaking this days after giving chance the planned dialogue which will be kicking off on Monday next week.
The Bipartisan talks will be picking up in earnest on Monday after the parties held a successful inaugural meeting last Wednesday at the Bomas of Kenya.
The meeting saw both sides led by Kalonzo Musyoka(Azimio) and Ichung’wah(Kenya Kwanza) agree on modalities, venue and dates.
