Wednesday August 16, 2023 -Kenya is in the process of negotiating a trade agreement with the U.S, an exercise set to be finalised by the end of this year. United States of America U.S.A government has announced.
U.S Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, while addressing in the ongoing Devolution Conference in Eldoret Uasin Gishu County today Wednesday August 16, advised the current administration of Kenya Kwanza to make the country a better investment haven in East Africa.
She noted that a transparent and fair tax rates for both the foreign and locals of this country will help attract growth of the economy through increased investments.
While doing this, Ambassador Whitman emphasized the need for standardized taxes that can be consistent with everyone across board.
“All of you know that more needs to be done but that is why the Finance Bill had many changes that will make Kenyan tax policies more consistent and therefore more bankable by foreign direct investments,” Ms Whitman said in her remarks in Eldoret.
Should Kenya continue on the rightful trajectory, the U.S will finalise negotiating a trade agreement with Ruto; an exercise that will be completed by December this year.
This agreement, she added, will be the base model for the rest of Africa and, even the world at large.
The diplomat further observed at the 8th Devolution Conference 2023 that Kenya continues to be attractive to the foreign powers and business community due to the rare local talent available.
She mentioned sports and technology as some of the areas playing an integral role in pulling the U.S close to the heart of Kenya.
“Every firm that I have spoken to says the Kenyan workforce is the best in the world,” the US Ambassador revealed to the dignitaries attending the conference.
The Ambassador of U.S to Kenya also used her chance to report that the August 2022 general elections that saw William Ruto declared president was the most credible election in Kenya’s history.
On his part, President Ruto assured the diplomatic community that his leadership will work all means to weed out the remaining spots of corruption in all government departments.
