Wednesday August 16, 2023 –President William Ruto has promised to harmonise salaries after discovering that some of his juniors earn better than himself.
On Wednesday August 16, speaking in the ongoing 8Th Devolution Conference in Eldoret, the head of State disclosed that he had gathered reliable information indicating that he is not the highest earning State official in this country despite his workload.
On that note, Dr. Ruto accused powerful civil servants in government of awarding self huge salaries which cannot be accounted for by the work they are doing.
The president noted that these caliber of workers were getting salaries that are not listed or sanctioned by the country’s Salaries and Remuneration Commission SRC.
Ruto also argued that, though, he earns sh 1.4million every month, some juniors who do almost nothing in office earn more than this and that this malpractice is more rampant in State parastatals.
Furthermore, the commander-in-chief said some heads of learning institutions like universities are currently earning huge salaries than what he gets home in salaries.
President of Kenya, in the current Salaries and Remuneration Commission SRC, commands a monthly salary of sh 1,443,750.
This sum does not encompass specific benefits, like a sh 10 million-valued inpatient health cover, among other benefits he is entitled to.
The second most powerful man – the deputy president (now Rigathi Gachagua) – is earning sh 1.2 million salary which is slightly below his boss.
Kenyans who have supported this conversation called upon him(Ruto) to move with speed and ensure there is a balance between work done and earnings in government departments.
“Dear President you are speaking the truth; no president has made such truthful sentiment. This country must change. Earning sh 2 million for what when most companies are making no profits, losses although?” Samuel Cheki commented on Facebook.
With the president’s outcry today, it is obvious that many could be affected as it emerges that there are some individuals making over sh 15 million every month.
