Thursday August 17, 2023 –Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has responded to Raila Odinga’s remarks at the Devolution Conference held in Eldoret, today.

Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alfred Mutua, has released a long-worded statement to counter what Mr. Odinga said in the conference today Thursday August 17.

u.S.A Ambasador Meg Whitman

CS Alfred Mutua has firmly stated that the remarks by Meg Whitman on Wednesday August 16 were her honest position on the last general election that pitted Ruto against Raila Odinga.

Mutua said the diplomat only stated facts and paid tribute to the democratic way the Kenyan constitutional institutions oversaw a credible electoral process that ended in a William Ruto win.

“An ambassador is the diplomatic representative of his or her nation. We welcome the fact that the Ambassador of the United States, with her very strong private sector background, has seen the enormous potential that Kenya under the leadership of President William Ruto has.

“She has recognized our nation’s potential and trajectory and does not require any retribution from any person who loves our country. Her message resonates well with the Kenya Kwanza economic empowerment plan and we thank her for telling the truth to naysayers, however painful it may be to some people living in denial,” Foreign Affairs Cs Mutua added.

Mutua also said KK government continues to value all foreign development partners and that members of the Diplomatic corps should not feel threatened or intimidated by unwarranted threats from the opposition.

His sentiments supported by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika who led fellow governors in faulting Mr. Odinga’s today remarks that took the U.S.A government by shock.

Speaking minutes after Raila’s address on Thursday, the leaders called on the ODM leader to take a break and refrain from condemning the U.S. ambassador.

They urged the opposition boss to accept that elections were over and that the winner was announced last year with next election slated four years ahead.

“She represents and talks about Kenya more positively and patriotically than many Kenyans. Perhaps it is also time for us to tell him (Raila) to shut up,” Governor Kihika said.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila, through his speech, described Whitman as a rogue ambassador who should be called out for her political stand that seems to undermine the ongoing bipartisan talks in the country.

“The rogue Ambassador must be told that Kenya is not a colony of the United States of America. She must respect Kenyans or keep her mouth shut,” the opposition leader warned.

This was after Whitman described the 2022 General polls to be one of the fairest and most transparent in the history of Kenya.

Raila further used the opportunity to take-on those faulting his past demonstrations saying, were it for the street protests, the current Constitution as well as Devolution would not be there.

He noted that so many things can come out of demonstrations especially when the sitting President is hesitant to listen to everybody, equally.
