Monday, August 21, 2023 –Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has claimed William Ruto’s victory saved him from jail.
Speaking in Maragwa in Murang’a County over the weekend, the politician claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime wanted him jailed for crimes he had nothing to do with.
He listed the Poland firearm scandal that saw him dragged to the court for over a year before he was freed after the court found him innocent.
“You know what I went through in the last government. I thank you Murang’a people for voting Ruto because I was going to Shimo la Tewa.
“But because you voted President Ruto into power, I am now a free man. What I went through is what DP Gachagua also went through,” he reminisced.
The Water Towers Board Chairman recounted how the last government, using the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI, pressed about 11 charges on him.
“I had about 11 cases including Poland and firearms. I went through this because of supporting William Ruto. Everyone who used to rally behind Ruto had cases in court,” Echesa noted.
The former ODM Party youth Chairman, therefore urged Central Kenya residents to continue supporting this government to achieve its agenda of developing the country.
He lauded William Ruto-Gachagua leadership as democratic and competent.
Rashid Echesa who served as Sports Cabinet Secretary in the Uhuru Kenyatta government, would be sacked during the second term – a move he described as political.
He severally sought to know why he had been fired, at times, linking his woes to the Uhuru-Raila handshake.
