Tuesday, August 22, 2023 –Uasin Gishu County Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei has continued exposing Ababu Namwamba over malpractices in the Ministry of Sports.
Shollei, Deputy Speaker in the National Assembly, now wants Ababu summoned over rampant mismanagement in the Sports docket.
Her sentiments coming just days after Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, also called for his censure over the state of Kenyan athletes.
Shollei, who was appearing on Citizen Tv Daybreak, on Tuesday August 22, described the Sports Ministry as an office being run down by the current CS Ababu Namwamba.
Exposing Namwamba further, Shollei claimed that she was forced to host a team of athletes from the Boston marathon as well as London marathon after the Sports ministry failed to secure them a decent welcome back home.
“I am happy that this was raised. Coming from Uasin Gishu where most athletes come from it’s very painful, I listen to them. Every time they have landed they have come to my home here in Kitusuru because the CS is not bothered.
“I’ve hosted them for breakfast, lunch and talked about their challenges and they tell me their horror stories. They fly economy, the ministry officials are flying business class and first class, sometimes they have a layover of 14 hours,” she noted.
The Woman rep also alluded that the recently launched Talanta Hela App was non-existent despite the hype from the ministry that it will be helping creative industry in the country.
A crosscheck by the media also confirmed that the App is neither on the Play Store nor App Store for public access and downloading.
As if that is not enough, Ms Shollei added to complain that the Ababu Namwamba-led ministry has been giving some teams knockoff uniforms to use during their international games yet the ministry is well funded on time.
“Seeing the management of sports at the moment is painful. As late as yesterday I looked for the Talanta Hela app [and] it doesn’t exist. They told us it was launched.
“The other day when our team went to Tunisia for the beach games, they were wearing fake sports uniforms, knockoffs from River Road. If you look at the team that went to Trinidad and Tobago they were also wearing fake uniforms. It just asks you by the time a country reaches a point where our athletes are wearing fake uniforms there is really something wrong,” she claimed.
She also seized the opportunity to accuse the CS of neglecting athletes by leaving them in the hands of rogue managers who exploit them both sexually and doping.
Joining fellow politician from UDA Party, the Uasin Gishu politician promised to take-on the CS when he will be showing up for grilling in the House chambers.
