Saturday, August 26, 2023 –Government has ordered shutdown of a local police station in Busia County over its questionable activities.
During his Saturday visit in the County, President William Ruto heeded alarm from local leaders over criminal activities linked to the station.
Ordering its immediate closure, Ruto said leaders and reliable locals had proved to him that the station harbors criminal activities in the County.
He warned that anyone found engaging in criminal activities in the country will be dealt with by law and with equal force.
“Let them read my lips. Anyone who will try to cause violence here in Busia will face me. I have been told that the gang even have their own police station here in Busia,” Ruto established.
He firmly directed that the station be closed down with immediate effect though he did not make any further orders on the police officers working there.
“That must stop immediately. I have ordered that the police station be closed with immediate effect. And tell them that I am the one who has ordered the closure,” Ruto made the orders.
Dr. Ruto also used the chance to caution residents against destructive activities including protests that lead to deaths, injuries and losses.
“Let it be known that there is no one will be allowed to assault the innocent people of Busia. Should they try, they will meet us head-on,” Ruto assured.
He spared none of the leaders who he had been tipped are fueling violence around Busia and said each will be held squarely responsible of their actions.
Area governor who was present, Paul Otwoma, who almost mentioned the names of the gang members causing problems in the area reported to the president that the gang had started collecting taxes from helpless locals and traders.
“This gang has been taking part in criminal activities, including taxing women who are operating shops Town Busia Town,” Otwoma claimed.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi urged locals to embrace peace and unity to attract investments in the county.
It will, therefore, be interesting to see what next after this uproar as locals expect necessary actions taken against the rogue police officer at the station.
Present was also Member of Parliament Kiharu Constituency, Ndindi Nyoro and Vice Chair Parliamentary Budget Committee Mary Emase both who addressed locals.
