Thursday, August 31, 2023 -hours after an anti-corruption court in Nairobi ordered the arrest of former Meru Governor Peter Munya, he finally presented self in court.
Munya, who is supposed to testify in court on the Arror and Kimwarer multimillion corruption scandal, had failed to show up in today’s session triggering the decision from the judge.
Magistrate Eunice Nyutu then ordered the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI to arrest and present the former Agriculture boss in court.
Homenews.co.ke learnt that, initially, the court had given Mr. Munya 90 minutes to appear in court to testify, but he failed to honour the order.
And after presenting himself, today Thursday August 31, the former CS was released by the court after the prosecution side indicated its unpreparedness with the case.
The prosecution asked the court for more time to piece together concrete evidence but the magistrate advised otherwise.
In Court, Munya is supposed to testify in the sh 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer corruption scandal.
Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal first rocked the Uhuru Kenyatta regime leading to a sharp split in the ruling party of Jubilee.
At some point when Ruto was the deputy, he defended his faction from the scandal saying only sh 7 billion got lost and not sh 63 billion as was being claimed.
This response from Ruto saw section of the political players allied to the opposition/Azimio accuse him of being heartless to the millions of Kenyans who were suffering in drought when money meant to help them had been diverted to people’s private pockets.
Speaking during the last year Presidential debate on a Tuesday, the DP claimed there was no money lost in the tendering processes of the two dams as claimed.
He added that the sh 7 billion paid for the projects was insured and the insurer should have returned the money in case of any loss.
His boss then Uhuru Kenyatta, while addressing at Sagana State Lodge, in a subtle reference to his deputy, said whoever ate the Dams money has their place reserved in hell.
The two dams which President Ruto now wants to complete, are supposed to be located in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
