Sunday, September 3, 2023 Azimio co-principal Martha Karua has taken issue with Kalonzo Musyoka’s remarks which recognized William Ruto as a duly elected President.

Reacting to Musyoka’s Saturday September 2 claims that now Azimio supports the current government, Karua has termed such words as personal and not an official stand from their side.

“Not true,” Karua said after the Nation newspaper ran the story on Sunday September 3, 2023.

While at Voi in Taita Taveta County, Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka said the coalition now fully recognises President William Ruto as a legitimate head of State.

Kalonzo spoke on Saturday when he attended the burial ceremony of Wiper Party Nominated MCA Constance Mkamburi Mwandawiro.

He said the coalition recognises Ruto as the President because of his stance to keep the bi-partisan talks on course.

“We are going to call everybody to order. And nobody is going to stop these discussions. On that part I must congratulate the President because he has put his foot down anasema mazungumzo iendelee.

“Na kwa sababu ya kuonyesha msimamo huo, ata na sisi tunazidi kumtambua” ,”Kalonzo said.

The ex-Vice President also said the coalition has no problem with the President, other than being shocked by the remarks by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua who keeps dismissing the talks as a waste of time.

“We have no issue with anyone, but we have a problem with some people’s remarks. Like the Deputy President’s remarks at a funeral in Ukambani. He spoke words that shocked the people of Machakos, some were just staring at him in disbelief,” Kalonzo further said.

The Wiper Party leader recognised that the cost of living is really high, adding that the discussions will cover everything for the sake of the nation.

Since elections were concluded last year, Raila and his Azimio la Umoja troops maintained that Ruto-Gachagua ticket rigged themselves into power and that, due to this, the opposition will not recognise their leadership unless IEBC servers are opened for review and scrutiny.
