Thursday, September 14, 2023 –Cabinet Secretaries in the William Ruto’s Administration were on Wednesday night roasted on live Tv show.
In a live Tv interview broadcasted on Citizen Tv news night, Cabinet Secretary Trade and Industrialization CS Moses Kuria was seen attempting to explain how the edible cooking oil as well as unga had reduced in their prices amid public uproar on the cost of living; only to be confronted by a live video response from Eldoret Supermarket – Naivas.
A reporter in Eldoret took the panel through the current oil prices in supermarket something that Kuria and Nakhumicha struggled to counter.
An angry Kuria had only tried to link the host Sam Gituku to Azimio la Umoja politics, when he (Gituku) pressed hard for clarification on the prices of basic commodities in the country.
The CS claimed that Sam Gituku was hellbent on inciting Kenyans against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Prices of commodities
Gituku who, all through, remained collected, demonstrated how the prices on unga and cooking oil had gone up since Kenya Kwanza administration took charge, sought to understand how Azimio figures were being pointed out as different from those on the ground.
“But Sam facts are stubborn. You continue getting it wrong all the time. I have never seen people who are consistent with lies than Royal Media. Prices have fallen without subsidy; don’t you think we deserve a medal?” Kuria rebuffed as health CS Susan Nakhumicha interjected to reinforce his point.
On the same note, Dennis Itumbi joined the debate by asking Citizen Tv to be objective on their interviews with CSs and stop being partisan.
“As responsible journalists, we urge you to maintain a balanced approach in your interview with Kenya Kwanza CSs tonight. While scrutiny is essential, please also highlight President Ruto’s achievements for a fair & comprehensive representation,” Itumbi commented.
Going on a spot check
Kuria dared Mr. Gituku to call any supermarket around the country to confirm the price of cooking oil, only for Gituku to take him on the challenge and send a reporter to Eldoret supermarket live on air where he(Kuria) was proved wrong.
President William Ruto’s administration, since taking power twelve months ago, resorted to what they referred to as subsidizing production and not consumption with a promise to avail lowered cost of living during their first days in power.
To date, sadly, Kenyans are seemingly still grappling with the high cost of living after the new government took office.
This has led to the opposition-government tussle on whether to include the high cost of living agenda in the ongoing Bomas of Kenya bipartisan talks.
