Friday, September 15, 2023Azimio la Umoja Party wing has faulted the current government for making numerous foreign trips at the time the country was suffering with the high cost of living.

Addressing the media from Nairobi today Friday September 15, Mr. Odinga led his troops in calling out the current administration for not moving with speed to save the ailing economy.

“Things will turn to the worst or remain the same. The Ball is squarely in the court of the regime.  They ought to act or wait for same fate that has befallen other insensitive and incompetent regimes across Africa,” Raila warned.

Talking on the promises from Kenya Kwanza and the recent signing of oil deals with Gulf nations to reduce pressure on the dollar versus the shilling, Mr. Odinga said the measures being undertaken by the Kenyan government in the guise of saving the falling shilling would yield absolutely nothing.

“They say we are going to do a government-to-government deal and pay for oil in Kenyan shilling. What are the Arabs in the Middle East going to do with Kenyan shilling which is quickly falling and lacking meaning?

Odinga added that, out of all these, the innocent mwananchi would remain suffering as leaders globe trot in the name of seeking for development partners.

The opposition leader pointed out that it was quite wrong for the government to interfere with Over-the-Counter OTC exchange; what has resulted into the current economic downturn.

“It is very unfortunate because innocent Kenyans are suffering while those responsible for this mess are constantly globetrotting in Colombia to benchmark on coffee and giraffes,” Raila quipped.

Odinga who was speaking this while flanked by Azimio luminaries among them Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni referenced his speech to the ongoing trips by key leaders in government.

President William Ruto is in the United States of America U.S.A for about a week while his deputy is in Columbia where he is meeting coffee farmers.

“On the sidelines of the Producer and Roaster Forum in Medellín, it was heart-warming having a conversation with a group of youthful vibrant Kenyans studying in Colombia.

“Besides studies, the hardworking Kenyans are involved in side hustles, including in the sale of coffee,” DP Gachagua remarked in a statement seen by this writer.
