Sunday, September 17, 2023 -Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reacted to Moses Kuria’s outbursts on the cost of living in the country.
Gachagua who has been away in Colombia for an official tour, arrived back in Kenya on Sunday morning and immediately took charge of the country.
His first assignment on landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA was to address concerns by Kenyans over utterances made by top State officials Moses Kuria and Economist David Ndii.
The DP directly took issue with Kuria for exchanging with the puplic over the cost of fuel in the Country.
“While away, I keenly kept abreast discussions back home, especially on the recent spike in oil prices, which, though global, have not spared us.
“I have noted with concern the exchanges between public servants and the People of Kenya.
“I want to call upon fellow leaders, particularly those that our President has given the privilege to serve Kenyans to exercise caution in addressing their employer- the People of Kenya. It is Insensitive to talk down on The People,” he said in part.
Without mentioning names, he remind them that, although the people of Kenya did not employ them directly, they decisively elected H.E President William Ruto, who in turn appointed them into his Cabinet as CSs and advisors.
“You do not address your employer with arrogance. Do so with Humility and Decorum. Kenyans, like the rest of the world, are going through difficult economic times and leaders should address them with Sensitivity and empathy,” added the DP.
According to Gachagua’s statement, responsible leaders should be sensitive and inspire hope to the people.
“Talking down on the people and demoralising those who look up to them for solutions and a way out of the difficult situation they find themselves in is not good leadership. Please Do Not spite the people of Kenya,” also read his statement.
The second in command noted that their Government remains aware of and is sensitive to the challenges Kenyans are currently facing today and added that the arrogance from a few leaders do not reflect the official Government position or that of President William Ruto.
He argued further that President Ruto remains committed to finding lasting and sustainable solutions to the economic challenges in the country.
CS Kuria, days ago, challenged Kenyans dissatisfied with their government to drill own fuel wells.
