Thursday, September 21, 2023 –Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Kalerwa Salasya has been exposed over sh 40,000 in defaulted loans.

In a social media post shared by Human Rights Activist Boniface Mwangi on Wednesday September 20, a member of the public who was identified as Polycarp Nyonje decried that the Mumas East MP had defaulted to settle a SACCO loan of sh 165,000 at the time he was hustling in Kakamega Town.

MP Peter Salasya speaking

“Peter Salasya took a Sacco loan of sh 165,000 while he was working with Diamond Trust Bank, Kakamega Branch. I acted as his guarantor, together with two other members.

“He immediately defaulted on the loan and each time we spoke in person, or on the phone, he kept on promising that he would repay it,” Polycarp claimed in a post seen by Homenews.Co.ke.

Salasya then continued promising that he will settle the debt what he didn’t fulfil todate despite acquiring the honorable status.

“He continued to promise us that he would repay, right up to the time he became a member of parliament. I approached the National Assembly.

“I have tried engaging Salasya on social media platforms but he never responds. Our hard-earned savings were debited to the tune of Ksh40,821. This affected our borrowing power in the Sacco. When I try to reach him nowadays, he doesn’t respond to my calls, or even texts,” the complaint read in part.

The said victim resorted to seeking help from Salasya’s political Party DAP-Kenya but its leadership did nothing to recover the funds on his behalf.

“I also approached his party, DAP-Kenya Party but they didn’t assist us. I’m seeking your help to reach out to this man so that he can realise that he has really subjected us to financial constraints, as he lives large,” the post read further.

Immediately after seeing the Wednesday expose’ which was garnering huge readership on Twitter, the MP resurfaced saying that was a drop in the ocean which he will pay once he is back from his tour in Nigeria.

“Mr watchman am here ambia yeye akujie 40k kwa office in Mumias East …sawa?

“Forty thousand is a drop in the ocean I earn 1,000000 so tell him nikitoka Nigeria i will come to office or he can visit my office in Mumias East he get paid,” Salasya responded in the comments section.

He, however, took issue with a section of Twitter users saying they were hellbent on bringing him down following his rising political star.

Mr. Peter Salasya with Party leaders at DAP-Kenya recently.

A section of Kenyans would, nonetheless, encourage him to settle the debt in good faith to save his face as a Member of Parliament.

“Mheshimwa you are paying after Mwangi published it on his page but you were happy to ignore their calls before that. Ndugu just pay these guys, clearly u have subjected them to alot of financial difficulties while you earn over 1M every month,” wrote Noordin.

They also argued that the sh 40,000 he may see as a drop in the ocean means a lot to the poor man in the village.
