Saturday, September 23, 2023 –Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken silence on plans to fire Trade and Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria.
Speaking somewhere in Central Kenya on Friday September 22, Gachagua said he will not be allowing people from his region to be frustrated by anyone in Kenya Kwanza government.
Describing Kuria as their son, the DP stated that, as a community that defines politics and top leadership in the country, there is no way he can allow Kikuyus to be frustrated.
He singled out Kuria as a Kikuyu who is targeted in the new wave of attacks and claims of sacking by a section of the public.
“I can see that people still don’t understand our community well. Have heard them say Kuria should be fired. Fired to go where?” he posed indicating that he will block such attempts meant to target the community.
Gachagua Blames Media Reports
Gachagua also added that members of the media had hatched a scaled-up propaganda between him and Mr. Kuria claiming that there was rift in between them.
“It’s a creation of the media where they report things that some of us do not understand,” added Gachagua.
The second in command was speaking this, three days after Kuria found himself under fire over his comments on the cost of living in the country.
Kuria asked Kenyans dissatisfied with their government to choose having their own fuel production wells in their homes.
The sentiments attracted the attention of the country as DP Rigathi Gachagua also warned those holding public offices to have some degree of respect and manners to the members of the public who voted for them.
Falling short of mentioning Kuria, the DP in his long Twitter post, termed the remarks as ‘arrogant’ in nature.
“Responsible leaders should be sensitive and inspire Hope to the People-the Hope for a Better tomorrow. Talking down on the people and demoralising those who look up to them for solutions and a way out of the difficult situation they find themselves in is not good leadership. Please Do Not SPITE the People of Kenya,” DP Gachagua wrote in reference to Kuria’s outbursts on social media.
Mr. Kuria would not take the criticism lying low. Instead, he fired back at his senior Mr. Gachagua by reiterating that, based on facts and not fiction, fuel cost was not going to come down any time soon.
Fuel Prices to go up
He reminded the DP that August fuel stocks will land in October and that the cost of the product isalso well-known globally and this remains scientific.
“September shipments will land in November. Costs are also known. From there we move to Winter in the US and expected stock piles. And then the bilateral arrangements between Saudis and Russia on the one side and China and India on the other hand plus ongoing oil cuts. As Minister responsible for Private Sector mine is to advise business based on science not truthful voodoo,” he clapped back.
He also added a subsequent post on Twitter apologetically ridiculing both Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and his unnamed ‘Master’ for purporting to advise him on matters economy.
“On Friday 15th September I made some comments indicating that the price of fuel is likely to go up in the coming months owing to global dynamics. I am made to now understand that the price will come down. I apologise profusely since to err is human,” he apologized in jest.
The unbowed CS further mocked that he had been advised by Khalwale and his ‘master’ that the remarks were not only incorrect but insensitive and arrogant to the public.
