Bomas Bipartisan Team Responds to Claims of sh 106M Allowances and Retreats

Wednesday, September 27, 2023 –Bipartisan team has reacted to Wednesday reports that its gobbling a whopping sh 106 million allocated to it over the ongoing Government-Opposition talks.

On the morning of Wednesday September 27, Nation newspaper ran an exclusive report on how the Ruto-Raila team was swimming in tax payers’ money at the Bomas of Kenya.

The report claimed that the budget allocates sh 106 million for team allowances and planned retreats in Naivasha and Mombasa. The breakdown includes sh 10 million for “document translation” and sh 15,000,000 for the publication of 1,000 copies of materials.

An additional sh 9.7 million is earmarked for contingency. Co-chairs of the National Dialogue Committee, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, are reportedly entitled to sh 50,000 allowances per sitting.

Other payments to committee members, according to the exclusive expose, also amounts into millions of tax payers money.

But in a sharp response hours later, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot quickly rubbished the report and said the bipartisan talks team is yet to receive the mouthwatering allowances as reported in sections of the media.

In the statement which arrived on Homenews.Co.ke desk, Senator Cheruiyot denied such payments from tax payers kitty.

“This is stupidity of the highest order. Please establish the facts of any matter before running a campaign on it. We have never been paid any allowance. There has never been a charge to tax payers on behalf of NADCO. This is your usual hired headlines. Distasteful,” he answered.

The Senator who is part of the 10-member team added that the media should gather facts first before running such misleading and inflamatory information.

Per the article, most of the sh106 million would cater to the ten-member team’s allowances with the rest going to the technical team’s allowances and other uses such as venue, security and food.

Speaking on Ntv hosted by Ben Kitili today morning, analyst by the name Fanya Mambo said what is happening at Bomas of Kenya is a reflection of what’s happening in other State sectors.

He claimed that Statehouse is spending sh 77 million every day in mysterious activities even as mama mboga and boda boda riders continue being sold only hope.

The National Dialogue Committee is expected to complete its mandate in sixty days and forward the recommendations to President William Ruto and the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
