List of Petrol Stations Selling Bad Fuel to Motorists

Saturday, September 30, 2023 –A total of 18 petrol stations in the country have been flagged by the energy regulator for selling adulterated fuel to motorists.

In an official notice of Saturday September 30, the Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority EPRA listed the 18-stations spread across the country.

EPRA argues that contaminated fuel in car engines not only has a long-term destruction effect to the internal machines but also makes safety of road users risky.

This fuel interferes with both performance and efficiency of most cars which always fuels in the mentioned petrol stations.

For instance, in Machakos County, Manyatta Fuel Station at Kaewa was fined sh 377,160 for retailing diesel meant for export.

Tom’s Highway Filling Station in Homa Bay and Binhal Filling Station, in Meru were closed for selling adulterated fuel.

Cafra Filling Station found in Shinyalu in Kakamega was also fined sh 79,067 for selling super petrol meant for export.

K Fuels Service Station in Kitui, and Mitcamah Enterprises Filling Station in Meru were fined sh 50,000 and sh 101,646 respectively.

Highway Filling Station in Tharaka Nithi – selling Super petrol containing high Sulphur content – Closed

Verritorious Filling Station in Bungoma – Offering for sale Super petrol meant for export – Closed.

Satirisia Filling Station in Bungoma – Offering for sale Super petrol meant for export – Closed

BGSM Oil Filling Station in Kiambu – Offering for sale Diesel meant for export – Closed

The main reason petrol stations sell bad fuel to motorists is because they want to make quick and easy profits from unsuspecting members of the public.

Another reason for this is because petrol owners are trying to beat the escalating fuel prices in the country especially triggered by the recently doubled VAT tax on Fuel – both petrol and diesel.
