Sunday, October 1, 2023 –Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has poured cold water on William Ruto’s government saying they lied on many promises.
Speaking on Sunday October 10 in a church service somewhere, the clergy who supported Ruto’s bid in 2022 and even attended his Bomas of Kenya victory day, now has turned around to claim that the current government is struggling to fulfill things it overpromised.
He has asked President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to come out in the open and confess that the pledges they made to supporters heading to the campaigns were rhetoric in nature.
He added that the moment of truth has come and that it is obvious that this government will not deliver as was expected by hustlers.
“It’s now moments to face the truth. Tell Kenyans that the promises you made are unrealistic and now let’s get to prioritization from one to number two.
“If we try to push hard, you could break your back for nothing. Face the moments of truth and tell Kenyans that this is the truth let’s reschedule our promises because we cannot deliver some now,” Ole Sapit remarked.
He warned the government against trying to tax Kenyans so that to deliver things that cannot be done within the first term.
“You will struggle to get happen what you know cannot happen today. Be open and tell us that this is how we look like and we have to live within our means,” he added.
Sapit’s warning came at a time the Kenya Kwanza regime was under immense pressure from the public to honour on their pledges amid a struggling economy that has seen the prices of essential commodities skyrocket.
In December 2022, Sapit revealed to the media that IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati invited a team of religious leaders to his home hours before the final presidential results were announced on August 15.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, December 22, the Anglican church bishop disclosed that Chebukati had requested them to meet him for special prayers before they could head to Bomas where President William Ruto was declared winner of the August 9 polls.
Sapit and his team honoured the request and took part in the whole exercise upto the time William Ruto was announced and handed a certificate.
At the time, he was accused of betraying the church by a section of opposition-allied supporters and politicians.
