Tuesday, October 3, 2023 -A section of parents at St Teresa Eregi Girls’ High school in Kakamega County stormed school’s offices demanding to know the status of their children.
Reports by NTV on Tuesday October 3, confirmed that over 50 students had been hospitalised over an unknown disease.
From today morning, parents camped at the institution seeking answers on the whereabouts of their children most of who cannot be traced.
“We are asking for more time to get the exact medical report. Kindly be patient,” a school representative was quoted by NTV.
A source speaking to Homenews.Co.ke further revealed that 100 plus students had been affected by the disease as 42 of them were rushed to hospital today morning.
The few who were reached for comment said they feel weak around their body and cannot stand upright for a minute.
Health officers from both County and the National government have since arrived in the school to help save the escalating situation.
A section of parents told the media that the school principal as well as teachers at the institution have agreed to hide the truth from them.
Hundreds of them had to storm the staff room and principal’s office seeking to meet the teachers for deep explanation on their children.
They complained that, they have been camping at the school since morning but no teacher was willing to address them.
Some said that this is not the first time an outbreak is happening at the institution, as months back, the same happened and it was established that the hygiene at the school was wanting.
Few kilometers away, Mukumu Girls High School made headlines for similar reasons after learners and a teacher lost lives following unknown disease outbreak.
The situation escalated forcing Ministry of Education to make drastic changes at the institution.
