Thursday, October 5, 2023 –Opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga has revealed the reason why he is currently quiet.
On an interview with KTN Tv hoted by Ken Mijungu, the Azimio la Umoja leader said he has deliberately chosen to remain quiet so that to see how the Bomas of Kenya talks unfold.
He feels if he starts to make noise now, he could be blamed for scuttling the ongoing National Dialogue held at the Bomas of Kenya.
“I have no fear of Mr Ruto. My power comes from the people. If he wants to silence me, let him silence the people first. I talk when there is a need for me to talk. I feel that if I speak now, I may jeopardise the outcome of the talks,” he disclosed on the live show with Mijungu.
On the pledges made during last year’s hotly contested general elections campaigns, Odinga said the William Ruto-led government has since been caught between a rock and a hard place after over-promising the country.
“Kenya Kwanza has got its priorities wrong. They raised people’s hopes during the campaign period. People still remember what they promised. We can see this from videos on TikTok and on other social media platforms,” he added.
He seized the opportunity to slam Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a leader who is more inclined to his Kikuyu community than the whole country.
Mr. Odinga called out the DP saying it was a big tragedy to have Mr. Gachagua as the deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
“It is a tragedy for this country to have Gachagua as the DP. It is as if he is the DP for Mt. Kenya region only. He even says that Kenya is owned by shareholders. Such words are not right. Ruto should censure his deputy,” Odinga told Mijungu on the show.
Fur5ther, Odinga warned that any collapse of talks at the Bomas will resurrect their weekly demonstrations because Kenyans are still being oppressed with punitive taxes and the high cost of living.
The opposition boss stated that the High Cost of living remains a key agenda on his desk and must be resolved through flexible taxes.
“Our agenda was the cost of living that’s why we were on the streets. I am silent because I want talks to complete. I don’t want to jeopardise. I didn’t want to appear like am undermining the talks,” he clarified his current silence.
The opposition honcho went on to state that audit of the last presidential election is necessary so that to put the election matter to rest.
He was responding to UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala who had said that auditing of the presidential election results will not happen.
But Odinga referred to Malala as a busy body who doesn’t deserve his ear.
