Sonko, COTU Throws Weight Behind Fake Lawyer Brian Mwenda

Saturday, October 14, 2023 –Quack lawyer Brian Njagi Mwenda has continued receiving attention from some quarters following his court story that exposed him as a fake but establishing lawyer.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, in a long-worded statement, on Friday October 14, has asked the Kenyan learning system to put into consideration the prior learning skills as a per-requisite for employment or university entry.

Atwoli, while defending Mwenda, said it will be wrong to punish brilliant minds like Mwenda on account of practicing law without a valid degree.

COTU Stand on Brian

Atwoli mentioned that, as COTU organisation, they stand with the ‘quack’ lawyer, for demonstrating his ability to successfully defend clients in the court.

“COTU (K) calls upon the government of Kenya to take this opportunity to actualize Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in Kenya. RPL is a proven mechanism for recognizing the diverse learning pathways of our citizens and for harnessing the untapped talents that can drive our nation forward.

“COTU (K), finally, would like to inform Brian Njagi that we are available and ready to support him to ensure that his dreams are actualized,” a statement from Atwoli read in part.

Atwoli was supported by former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko who has already flown Brian to Mombasa awaiting to support him go through the looming court suit.

Sonko cautioned the Law Society of Kenya LSK against condemning the young ‘lawyer’ and threatening to sue him.

“I still maintain that my future lawyer Brian Mwenda is innocent until proven guilty. Tuko na yeye huku Mombasani until Monday when we shall present him to the DCI to record a statement,” Mr. Sonko said.

He, therefore, assured the authorities that Brian will be availed to the DCI on Monday or Tuesday morning and supported allthrough this difficult moments.

“We are in Mombasa with Brian ready to take him to the DCI for statement writing.

“I want to ask LSK President to have some empathy to this young and bright mind. He has not killed anybody with a knife or a panga,” Sonko stated.

Breaking his silence, Brian has said that he will be at the DCI offices on Monday for his statement and asked Kenyans to pray for him.

He also displayed confidence that the court will fairly decide his fate in accordance with the laws of the land.

But in an early statement by the Law Society of Kenya LSK President Eric Theuri, Mr. Brian is a wanted man who has broken into the legal system without valid certificates and education.

“Allegations that the masquerader Brian Mwenda won 26 cases is false & misleading. There is no factual basis to support the misleading claims. Efforts to apprend him are in high gear & we are optimistic that he will be brought to book,” he LSK President Theuri said.

He added that, without punishing the suspect, more masqueraders would continue benefiting from the lucrative legal industry which they don’t have qualifications or meet the high threshold.
