Wednesday, October 18, 2023 –Embakasi East Member of Parliament has blasted Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for allegedly ordering destruction of vendors’ properties today.

Reacting moments after several traders lost their stock following a day long raid by County Askaris that saw boiled egg vendors lose machines and their egg stock, Owino observed that this cannot have taken place without Governor Sakaja knowing it.

He said, Sakaja’s aftermath attempts to distance himself from the blame is part of his normal Public Relations PR stunts.

Owino wondered how, all day long, Sakaja could not move with speed to stop his officers from continued destruction.

“Hizi PR ndogo ndogo wachana nazo.Kanjo can’t act without your orders. Respect the hustlers we know that you grew up in weetabix and noodles and you completely don’t understand what it is go without food.

“This operation took the whole day, why din’t you stop it in the morning even after you were informed,” he noted.

The MP released this statement shortly after Sakaja announced a compensation fee of sh 10,000 to each vendor who was subjected to the torture.

“We have had cordial relations with informal traders for a year but lately there have been unfortunate incidences that seek to sabotage that. We will take disciplinary action.

“I have ordered the immediate release of all confiscated items, apologized to the traders and personally compensated each of them to the tune of 10,000 shillings each,” Governor Sakaja stated.

The governor who toured the destruction scene described this as an unfortunate situation which he assured will not be repeated.

“The happenings in the CBD earlier today were most unfortunate. This is not the way to treat Nairobians as we have continually implored our officers to treat Nairobians with Dignity,” the city CEO stated.
