Monday, October 23, 2023 –Businessman-cum-politician William Kabogo has revisited his friendship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he has described as a cunning man.
Appearing on a morning radio show at Spice FM today Monday October 23, billionaire Kabogo said, apart from Uhuru deciding to fight him politically by supporting his opponents in 2022, the ex-head of State also denied him a State award which was being given to many other governors around the country
He claimed on the interview that he was deliberately sidelined after he was skipped by President Uhuru Kenyatta for the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) award, the second-highest honour awarded by the Kenyan Government to achievers.
The former Kiambu County boss recounted how he thought Uhuru was his friend only to learn later on when it was too late that this was not the case.
“I was friends with Uhuru Kenyatta and I thought I was also his friend. As we speak now, I don’t have the medal that they gave to most governors (EGH). I did not get it. I was told at some point you need to buy the medal and I was like, what?” He lamented.
Governors who were awarded the prize by Uhuru included Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Josphat Nanok (Turkana), and Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet).
In the public, Uhuru and Kabogo seemed to enjoy a close friendship after Uhuru, at some piint in 2021, visited Kabogo at his Iguta Paradise Homes along Kiambu Road and together took photos.
Though details of the meeting remained scanty, word went round that Uhuru was seemingly mulling over fronting Kabogo as the next kingpin Central Region.
Learning about Uhuru on and off mentality, Mr. Kabogo would later express intentions to run for the Presidency in 2022 under his Tujibebe Party nefore he pulled out from the race in favour of President William Ruto who was the United Democratic Alliance UDA candidate.
Kabogo who started accompanying Kenya Kwanza around their Central Region rallies, would publicly endorse Ruto.
Afterwards, he ran for the Kiambu Governor position which he lost to the current Governor Kimani Wamatangi of UDA Party.
Uhuru, on the other hand, had thrown his weight behind James Nyooro who also lost.
