Sunday, November 26, 2023 –Martha Karua has hinted at a possible rejection of the National Dialogue Committee NADCO recommendations in totality.
In her latest remarks on the matter, the Narc Kenya Party boss said, Kenyans should be prepared to turn away the report if it will not highlight or address the contentious cost of living solution.
In her Sunday November 26 statement, Ms Karua noted that the report only carries weight with the solutions that can have a lasting impact to a poor Kenyan.
“Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on the cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected,” she said.
In its final report, the committee made an open admission that members had differed on how to handle the matter with the government side affirming that it was mandated to deal with the matter because it is in power.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah said, only the government is obliged to handle the matter and not the work of the opposition.
Both camps made proposals on key issues that were part and parcel of the talks in which they disclosed failure to hit a deal especially on the Finance Bill 2023 which Azimio think has too much unnecessary taxes.
“The committee was unable to reach a consensus on a number of other proposals on the matter of cost of living, including the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16 per cent to 8 per cent and scrapping of the housing levy, the twin issues in the Finance Act, 2023,” the report stated as seen by the media.
The report which had taken the committee about 90 days of sittings was signed by NADCO co-chairs Kalonzo Musyoka of the Azimio Coalition and Kimani Ichung’wah of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
Next to sign the deal is Azimio leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
