Tuesday, November 28, 2023 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has commenced legal proceedings against government over the fuel deal with the Saudi Arabia government.
Mr. Raila Odinga, today Tuesday November 28, made this confirmation saying the questionable Government-to-Government deal will have to be investigated and prosecuted in court; adding that he has every reason to believe that the deal is fraudulent and could see the country lose money to private enterprises.
“I have given my legal team instructions to petition government agencies to investigate the Petroleum government to government scam,” he updated.
In the statement seen by this desk and prepared by his Lawyer Paul Mwangi, it is reported that that the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC should have commenced investigations into the matter and then recommend the findings to the DCI for further action.
In the statement, Mr. Odinga noted that the agencies mandated to safeguard the public from such acts of poor deals were all silence what begs many questions.
Among the agencies named include, the EACC, ODPP, DCI, EPRA and Controller of Budget all which must ensure there is transparency in any government deal undertaken by the executive downwards.
“I have given my legal team instructions to petition government agencies to investigate the Petroleum government to government scam,” he added.
He asserted his earlier stance that the deal which the government describes as G-to-G remains a private-to-private business deal and which should be stopped.
“Despite the attempts by this government to fashion the business deals as a Government-to-Government, this deal is a contractual agreement between private entities,” the lawyers papers read in part.
Odinga continued challenging the State to make public the purported agreement so that the matter can be put to rest.
Weeks ago, President William Ruto together with his camp, accused Odinga of inciting Kenyans against their government.
President Ruto maintained that the Kenya-Saudi Arabia deal was purely a G-to-G and which he said will help lower the cost of living in the country.
