Thursday, December 7, 2023 –Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi is in the spotlight following her comments on the position of Chief Administrative Secretary CAS which the courts outlawed.

The MP who was appearing on an interview on K24 today Thursday December 7 morning, argued that the CASs positions still hanging in court are important since they will help serve ministries fast and efficiently.

She added that an expanded Cabinet means many people are employed and taxes also paid to government through an expanded tax base.

“If the CASs get salaries they will pay taxes, in fact we are creating more base of tax to go back to the government because they will employ others,” Hon. Beatrice Elachi stated.

This attracted the attention of a section of Kenyans led by Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party head of Communication Philip Etale who reacted with.

“Ooh my friend Elachi,” he wondered.

Other opposition supporters among them one Ja Loka said such persons like Elachi ought not to have been given any leadership position in ODM.

“Women who are built like this are only good for recreation, not for commitment. Their entire personality is built around their looks: they are shallow, entitled, extravagant, chaotic, and languid,” Ja Loka said.

Gibbs, another Twitter user, said, it sounds wrong for some sections to criticize Elachi when it is on record that Raila also had his allies in Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration who served in the CAS positions.

“Unashangaa na wakati wa handshake marafiki wa Raila walikuwa kwa hizo positions za CAS na hamkuongea,” Gibbs stated.

In her interview today, Ms Elachi noted that her fair view is that, for the ministries to function efficiently, there is need to have a deputy in the name of CAS.

I have said in complete fairness of the country and delivery of services and to ensure ministries function in the right way, you need a deputy. If you have a good CS like in Environment, definitely, she needs a deputy because of the many trips out of the country like now she is attending the climate change summit in Dubai,” Elachi stated.

The MP added that a Deputy will help follow through other deeper duties like forestry and control floods this El Nino season.

Asked what she thinks about lack of sufficient finds to run an expanded government, Elachi simply said, money should not be in question because there will never be enough.

The lawmaker said, the current devolution arrangement was created when the country was in a similar financial crisis and today it is succeeding.

MP Elachi is an elected MP in ODM opposition Party.
