Friday, December 8, 2023 –Vocal Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei could be sued by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over the utterances he made regarding a multiomillion contract bribery.
CS Murkomen has today Friday December 8 taken issue with the Nandi Senator for claiming that he (Murkomen) was bribed sh 15 billion by a Chinese firm that deals in building and construction.
Kenyawide.com has accessed a strong Demand Notice written by Murkomen’s lawyer seeking explanation on the alleged bribe which the letter says remains a hearsay.
Cherargei is directed to either apologise or be subjected to a court law suit with regard to the claims which the complainant sees as malicious and misleading.
“The said words, in their natural and ordinary meaning, meant and were understood by ordinary, just and right-thinking members of society to mean that our client has committed the crime of receiving a bribe from China Wu Yi and is corrupt,” partly read the notice.
CS Murkomen, through the Notice, goes on to state that anything which was said by the senator did not have evidence and, if any, then this should be produced in court when the hearing starts soon.
“The above words are in fact false and the same were published by you maliciously since you had no scintilla of evidence to believe in their truth either at the time you uttered them, or at all,” also read the demand letter seen by the media.
The letter is a reaction on what Cherargei uttered to the media on November 24 alleging that Murkomen had been offered and received a staggering USD 100 million in bribes from the Chinese construction firm.
This bribe was delivered between June and October 2023 with an aim of influencing tender awarding exercise in favour of the bribing firm.
“I want to dare him to tell the country what agreement did he agree on the allegation of receiving a hundred million US Dollars from China Wu Yi, where he was paid an upfront of fifty million, and we have all the facts. We have the flight manifest. We know where the money is in Dubai.
“It is that some of us are keeping what we call distance but it has reached a time that the country must know the truth and that is why he decided to ensure he gets protection from the House so that some of us do not speak and tell the county the truth,” partly read the quote in the Demand Notice.
The bitter fight characterized by name calling between the two leaders who all are in the ruling party UDA, started a few months ago.
It came in the light the day the two leaders met in a local function and Cherargei used the opportunity to ask Murkomen to award locals construction jobs. Murkomen would hit back saying such thinking, if relied on, could not have secured William Ruto a presidential victory in the August 9 polls.
