Friday, January 5, 2023 -Prominent Kenyan activist Okaya Omtatah has strongly rebuked President William Ruto urging him to apologise to the Judiciary over bribery claims.
In a hard-hitting statement released today Friday January 5, Senator Omtatah told the head of State to learn to refrain from intimidating Kenyans, and abide by the Constitution of 2010.
“The President has a right, like any other citizen,to be heard & protest, I implore him to utilize his access to intelligence resources to unearth instances of corruption within the judiciary.
“Let him provide concrete evidence of any judge or litigant taking or offering bribes,” Omtatah stated.
Omtatah further noted that the President’s allegations are grave and pose a great threat to the judicial independence.
He challenged Ruto to, instead, report corruption allegations to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI.
“It appears that the president lacks concrete evidence against those he has accused of bribery.
“If he did, he would have handed the matter over to DPP/DCI for action, added Senator Omtatah.
This reaction coming shortly after the commander-in-chief warned the Judiciary that he will no longer abide by court orders that seem to derail his Bottom Up agenda.
The President pointed out how certain bench elements have been taking bribes to frustrate his housing project to be funded by the newly-introduced housing levy kitty.
The remarks that have since been received with varying observations.
