Wednesday, January 31, 2024 -Government has directed developers, contractors, suppliers and workers to proceed with the Housing project.
This announcement coming days after a court ruling suspending the deduction of the housing levy on salaried Kenyans.
In a statement from Lands Cabinet Secretary CS Alice Wahome, the Affordable Housing Programme is a key initiative of the government and will progress as had been planned.
“The attention of the Ministry has been drawn to reports that there is concern among contractors participating in the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) about the viability of the project following the court ruling on the Housing Levy,” the statement said.
“The Ministry urges for calmness in the sector and encourages the developers, contractors, suppliers and workers to carry on with their activities.”
The statement following that of President William Ruto who had vowed to soldier on with his development plans.
Ruto had accused the Judiciary of working with the opposition to frustrate his agenda and programmes.
The commander-in-chief also announced to the Reuters news media that deployment of Kenyan police officers to Haiti will not stop despite resistance from the courts.
