Tuesday, February 6, 2024 -Nairobi County Government has ordered all Gas businesses opened in residential spots to vacate.
Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja made the directive today February 6 following the killer Embakasi gas leak that burst into flames killing, atleast six, as scores were left with major injuries.
“I have directed all sub-county administration officers to ensure all gas businesses operating within residential areas are closed with immediate effect,” Governor Sakaja directed.
Additionally, the governor asked all county officials who are relaxing on their mandate to strictly adhere to the county office rules or risk suit in court should they be found guilty of taking bribes to allow such dangerous businesses to freely open in residential areas.
Mr. Sakaja, in his address, noted that he had received a tip off of many illegal gas businesses operating around Nairobi and whose owners will be held squarely responsible of any eventuality.
The city boss encouraged Nairobi residents to help in unearthing any signs of danger before it caused problems on lives.
So far, the proprietor of the Embakasi gas plant, Derick Kimathi, has since been arrested.
