Monday January 18, 2021 -Court has stopped swearing in of Anne Kananu as Nairobi Governor pending hearing of a petition.
Citizen Digital reported that the Law Society of Kenya LSK and the Kenya Human Rights Commission had filed a petition arguing that any attempts to swear her into office would be unfair to Nairobi residents.
The Court today Monday January 18 therefore directed that the matter be taken to the acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s desk who will then assign the case to a bench of un even number of atleast three judges.
“Pending further orders of a multi bench and with the view of maintaining the prevailing status quo, a temporary injunction is hereby issued restraining the respondents, their agents and or servants from swearing in as Governor of Nairobi County pending hearing of the application,” read the court order in part.
This order is playing at the time Kananu took over Nairobi in the acting capacity after Benson Mutura relinquished the position in a presser made today Monday january 18th at City hall.
