Wednesday, January 20, 2021 –In Africa Continent, presidents rig elections and swear themselves into office any number of times they want.
In Kenya for instance, similar events have not been witnessed once but so many times where the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi stuck in office through force and because he wielded too much power at that time, nothing could happen to him. He would then rule for 24 years.
After his time, then came the strong Rainbow Alliance made up of Kibaki and Raila Odinga that overpowered his(Moi) tactics and finally he was ejected from the top seat which Mwai Kibaki sat for two terms. Interestingly, once Kibaki took over the instruments of power, he turned out to be another ‘calm but dangerous dictator’ who had little noise but heavy actions. He would bungle elections at will to remain in the high office. He even turned against a friend(Raila Odinga) who made him the king and made sure he tried as much as possible to render him so useless but Raila would push his way into Prime Ministerial position.
Kibaki is believed to have rigged elections twice against Orange Democratic Movement ODM candidate Raila Odinga. To prove this fact, Mr. Kibaki was sworn into office at night surrounded by a few surrogates.
Come to Uganda and the situation is even worse, Uganda’s long serving President has remained firm that he will never leave power unless through a coupe.
He rigs elections with a lot of reckless abandon and dares anyone who can cross his lane to do so. His intimidation tactics goes as far as killing opponents using his gun trotting goons. Many lives have been lost through his bloody hands. He is a dangerous tyrant whose only fate will be sealed by his own army or God.
Interestingly, there is this body called African Union led by
. The body mandated to speak and protect democracy has until today never questioned Museveni’s ills. It leadership has remained tight lipped even when human rights of opposition figures in Uganda were being violated in broad day light. It therefore makes one wonder why should it be in existence in the first place when it cannot help even during simple challenges that can be solved through a single press conference. Anyway they are all the same characters. Shameful!
And as we speak today, Uganda’s fierce opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi or Bobi Wine whose only sin was to win the just ended elections is still held under house arrest without food and water but AU still behaves like nothing has happened.
That said, the only remaining hope for African nations will be the coming to power of US President Joe Biden who some sections think will urgently help get rid of this rogue leadership from the continent.
