Tuesday, March 5, 2024 –Any land acquired irregularly will be recovered in a new exercise aimed to fight land-grabbing cartels around the country.
Land Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has made an official announcement with regard to the matter saying her ministry had initiated the recovery measures so that every public piece of land is recovered across the country.
“The grabbed Kitale Prison Land is just but one of the many cases of public land acquired fraudulently that the government is acting on recovering for its intended purpose of benefiting Kenyans and not individuals,” read a statement from the CS as seen by this desk.
First on the spotlight is the Kitale Land Prison which is currently grabbed by individuals believed to be well-connected.
President William Ruto, early this year, highlighted the need to recover every parcel of land which is in wrong hands.
Ruto promised to ensure that his government works all round the clock to deal with the increasing menace of land-grabbing in the country.
Wahome, while in Kitale, noted that time to take back any unlawfully acquired land was now so that it can be developed for something else that can benefit citizens who pay taxes.
She argued that, as of now, National Government was in dire need of land to construct affordable housing which has come with employment opportunities for millions of jobless youths across the country.
CS Wahome who was on a tour in Kitale was in the company of Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir, PS Correctional Services Salome Muhia, Commissioner General of Prisons Brigadier (retired) John Warioba, as well as CBS and Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, among other officials.
