Tuesday, March 26, 2024 –Delay in the implementation of the Ruto-Raila dialogue pact could soon trigger another fresh round of nationwide protests.
Opposition governor close to Raila Odinga has hinted at this saying there is no reason as to why the government is not pushing to implement the report which was ready, months ago.
Speaking in Siaya County on Monday March 25, Siaya Governor James Orengo warned of the return of their protests should the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report not be enforced.
“We are demanding that the parties to the NADCO negotiation which was courtered by Kalonzo Musyoka, Kimani Ichungw’ah and Opiyo Wandayi, implement the report,” Governor Orengo noted.
He added that there is no any other option for the government because the report was ready and handed over to the two principals.
“They must implement NADCO within the timelines that were agreed in the committee, otherwise we shall return to where we were,” cautioned Orengo.
And wading into the mucky waters of who is supposed to take over from Odinga who is headed to the African Union Commission, Orengo said the debate was premature as of now.
He further added that, without Mr. Odinga who remain the heartbeat of the Orange Democratic Movement and the opposition at large, it becomes hard to push the government of the day.
So far, former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya are angling to inherit Raila’s political bastion and ascend to the Presidency in 2027.
Weeks ago, Odinga named the two as the new leaders in ODM Party and asked them to run the party on his behalf as he seeks to take over the African Union leadership position.
