Friday, March 29, 2024 –Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission EACC and the Law Society of Kenya LSK are embroiled in a bitter exchange over dealing with runaway corruption in the country.
Law Society of Kenya LSK President Faith Odhiambo, while appearing on a national television on Thursday evening, took a sharp swipe at the ethics agency which she said was getting it wrong on the manner it was dealing with graft and corrupt State officers.
“EACC has failed Kenyans because it withdraws cases left, right and centre. I find it hypocritical for EACC to run campaigns to end corruption; they should start from within and clean up their systems,” Faith Odhiambo told Trevor Ombija on Days Break show on Citizen Tv.
But in a sharp rejoinder statement, EACC described the remarks as not only shocking but also embarrassing for a person of the standing of the LSK President to display such ‘ignorance’ of basic facts regarding the anti-corruption law enforcement process in Kenya.
“Does EACC have the power to withdraw corruption cases of a criminal nature? For civil matters that the Commission takes to court directly, can she state any single case that the Commission has ever withdrawn from court?” the EACC posed to her.
It went ahead to advise Lawyer Odiambo to make proper law research before appearing for the Tv shows, since the panellist, an advocate of the High Court should have done some basic research to familiarize herself with Kenya’s anti-corruption law enforcement processes.
The EACC added that, contrary to her ‘false’ assertion that EACC withdraws cases, the Commission is in court opposing withdrawals that it considers inimical to public interest, and will continue to do so.
Faith Odhiambo was recently elected President LSK a month ago taking over from her predecessor Eric Theuri.
