Thursday, April 11, 2024 -Opposition leader Raila Odinga has jumped into the doctors-government standoff asking the latter to pay intern doctors stipend of sh 206,000 per month.
Issuing altimatum today Thursday April 11 in a press briefing, Mr Odinga said only government can end the ongoing protests.
He therefore urged President William Ruto to act and end the strike to save more lives.
He further noted that the sh 206000 can be paid until the next negotiation are held.
“During that next round of negotiations, both parties will put their cases on the table for consideration,” Mr. Odinga argued.
On the same matter he opined that school fees for doctors going for further studies should be paid by the Ministry of Health with counties paying their monthly salary.
It’s now a month since the doctors across the country took to the streets in protest against the sh 70,000 intern allowance.
President William Ruto days ago urged the medics to take the current offer adding that his government can only afford to leave within it’s means.
The head of State also said it is illogical to pay doctors higher salaries at the time he is fighting hard to settle the public debt which past regimes left for him.
