Ogolla had Quit Military in 1998

Chrispen

Thursday, April 26, 2024 –Details have emerged on how the late General Francis Ogolla contemplated quitting the military over personal reasons.

In an undated video clip shared on X by former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko today Thursday April 26, Ogolla can be heard confessing his resolve to quit the army for a different career. Though he fails to reveal the reason why he had reached that decision, Ogolla mentions that, in the year 1998, he wrote a resignation letter and signed all clearance papers ready to move out of work only to be stopped by General Julius Karangi.

“In 1998 I resigned from the military and so, as protocol requires, I was taken to him(Karangi) for an interview.

“I Thought the interview would take, at most, 10 minutes and then he signs my letters, but he talked to me for three hours and when he finished, he said Francis you have the potential to be the Airforce commander. I took my resignation letter and went back to work,” Ogolla shares in the clip which we have on our desk.

Mr. Ogolla would, 20 years later, be promoted to be the next Airforce commander and that is when he remembered words from General Karangi who had stopped him to resign before.

“I drove with my wife all the way to Narok to meet him; and sat with him, thanked him for the vision. As usual, he talked to me again for three hours,” shared the late Ogolla.

He further noted that as he was leaving their Narok meeting, those books General Karangi was talking were  brought to him before Ogolla reciprocated with a word of ‘thanks’.

General Ogolla, sadly, perished last week in a chopper crash that also saw several other army officers die on the spot after fire engulfed the accident scene.

He has since been laid to rest at his Siaya County rural home.
