Tuesday, April 29, 2024 – more than 100 Members of Parliament who signed an impeachment petition against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary CS Mithika Linturi have a reason to smile after Speaker Moses Wetang’ula approved the document.
Wetang’ula, today Tuesday, gave approval to a motion by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi. The Speaker stated that the motion met all the constitutional and Standing Orders thresholds, and has allowed Mr. Wamboka to give a notice of motion.
The motion, is set to be debated on Thursday, May 2, during both morning and afternoon sessions, and which may finally put the office life of Mr. Linturi on a slim thread.
The CS will, however, be given an opportunity to mount his defence against all that he is accused of including corruption in the fake multimillion fertilizer scandal.
The grounds for his impeachment, as outlined by MP Wamboka, include gross violations of the constitution, particularly Articles 10(c), 153(2), and 152(6), pertaining to good governance, accountability, and criminal negligence, respectively.
“The sale of fake fertiliser and authorisation by the Cabinet Secretary to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) for the use of the facilities by private individuals is a breach of duty by the CS,” reads the motion, partly.
Yesterday speaking in a public function somewhere, CS Linturi reminded those accusing him of crimes that he only reports to his boss, President William Ruto.
He also added that he was not threatened in any way and that whatever that is being spined out there against his name will be not stop him from working for the people.
