Kuria, Gachagua Renew Their Ravalry

Tuesday, May 14, 2024 – Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has told off Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the one man-one vote-one shilling rallying calls.

Though Kuria has been supporting the calls to increase allocation for their Mt. Kenya Region due to their population, he told Gachagua to use his office together with the Mt Kenya appointed cabinet secretaries to make this issue a success rather than to lament in public meetings.

He pointed out nine senior leaders appointed by Ruto add the serving deputy president as people who must make things easily work for Central Kenya.

“This is why I will not lie to the people of Mt Kenya region about one man one vote one shilling. Our region has produced the sitting Deputy President, 9 Cabinet members (Including AG (Attorney General), National Treasury, and Secretary to the Cabinet), Majority Leader, Chair Budget and Chair Finance in the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker, and Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate,” CS Kuria said.

The CS went ahead to remind Gachagua that if the current nine CSs together with the deputy president position cannot make change in Central Kenya then any other method will never work.

“What other powers would we be looking for? We are a government and we can implement One Man, One Vote, One Shilling by Friday if we are serious. Let us be honest with our people,” Kuria hit again.

Speaking over the weekend, DP Gachagua lamented on how several areas in Mt. Kenya were being underfunded saying the only solution will be the one man-one shilling distribution policy.

“In matters of revenue sharing, I firmly believe in one-man-one-vote-one-shilling. It’s a straightforward concept: the more people there are in an area, and the more taxes they contribute, the more funding they deserve to receive.

“The push for this formula is not just about our region’s high population but because it is the right thing to do. We are committed to ensuring fairness in the sharing of national revenue,”Gachagua stated.

It is remembered that former President Uhuru Kenyatta together with the opposition leader Raila Odinga had the one man-one vote-one shilling formulae in their Building Bridges Initiative BBI which the Kenya Kwanza team fought hard to beat.

BBI would later be rejected by courts as Kenya Kwanza camp celebrated the outcome.
