Sunday, May 26, 2024 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga is currently in the United Kingdom U.K where he flew to three days ago.
Mr. Odinga landed in the U.K alongside his ODM party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and MP Jared Okello and were welcomed by the Kenya Mission to the U.K led by acting High Commissioner Edwin Afande and his team.
“I was welcomed to Rhodes House – Oxford by Kenya Mission UK led by acting High Commissioner Edwin Afande and his team. I also met Kenyan postgraduate students studying here,” stated Odinga on arrival in London.
The former AU High Commission for Infrastructure later had a chance to give his keynote speech on Charting Africa Path Forward at the Oxford Africa based at Rhodes House.
“I thank Oxford Africa for hosting me today to give a keynote speech on Charting Africa’s Path Forward: A Journey of Possibilities. I am an African and an afro-optimist. Africa is my business. Simply put, the animating vision throughout my life has been,” commented Mr. Odinga.
While there, the Azimio leader was encouraged by young people who continued being creative, far-sighted, and making demands from their leaders.
“We must treat the minds of our young people as our fundamental resource and most of all stretch your hands across borders and connect more with each other,” added Raila.
The AUC candidate observed that this is an age where 400 million Africans are on the internet; both urban and rural; connecting, watching, creating, learning, and earning a living.
Mr. Odinga acknowledged the work the mobile phone had brought to Africa describing this as the great disruptor providing a platform for young Africans to innovate.
