Monday, May 27, 2024 –Opposition principal Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed his fears over the latest move by President William Ruto to sign the non-NATO ally pact with the United States of America U.S.A.

Addressing this concern in a church service on Sunday May 26, Mr. Musyoka indicated that a lot remains unanswered after the president made the un expected move to enter into a such risky agreement that borders on security and safety of Kenyans.

Mr. Kalonzo, in his capacity as a key opposition figure as well as former Vice President and a Kenyan citizen, has therefore, demanded to know the security preparedness after this Washington non-NATO ally conferment.

“As a country, we are still paying the heavy price of the August 7, 1998, US Embassy bombings where 213 Kenyans lost their lives. Given our geographical location, Kenyans need to know the security implications of being designated a non-NATO ally,” Lawyer Kalonzo stated.

By this status, Kenya becomes the first sub-Sahara African nation to hold such a title that President William Ruto agreed with his counterpart Joe Biden during the five-day State tour by the Kenyan delegation.

Quick research from books shows that a major non-NATO ally (MNNA) means a country not part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), yet has a deep strategic and security partnership with the U.S.

And on the controversy surrounding the chattered private jet used by Ruto and wife to travel to America and back, Kalonzo sought answers as to why the head of State would make such uneconomical move at the expense of Kenya Airways KQ flights which are readily available, locally.

According to Mr. Kalonzo, Dr. Ruto hired a private jet from an UAE flight company instead of using a commercial flight.

Musyoka observed that this decision left the country sh 200 million poorer at the time economy and the shillings are both struggling in the market.
