Sunday January 24, 2021 -Anyone who wants to be a president through Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party will have to part with a whopping sh 1 million.

In its early statement released by Party’s Elections Board Chairperson Catherine Mumma, this will be part of the qualifications for one to meet the threshold.

The controversial requirement of sh 1 million each will be nonrefundable and must be paid through ODM bank account by a Bankers Cheque or through a cash deposit.

Some Kenyans were however not happy with this development terming it a pyramid scheme meant to drain money from members because the party already has an automatic flag-bearer.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho in an ODM Party rally.

“Why hoodwink Kenyans when you already know that you have an automatic presidential candidate in the name of Raila Odinga?” one user said.

Other Kenyans called out Mr. Odinga saying he was devising means to extort money from unsuspecting supporters who believed in the party for many years.

“This is one way of extorting Kenyans to raise funds to sustain the party. First, account for the money Kenyans contributed through the Paybill to pay teachers before you embark on conning Kenyans in the name of a presidential candidate,” another Kenyan attacked.

In its threshold statement, any candidate vying for top seat in ODM must also be be a registered Kenyan voter with a Degree from a reputable institution.
