Ruto Moves Closer to Warning Gachagua

Satuday, June 1, 2024 –President William Ruto has reiterated the need to stop divisive tribal politics in the country.

Issuing this warning during his 16th Madaraka Day speech held in Bungoma County on Saturday June1, Ruto said, Kenya has since grown and come along way in making sure there is co-existence among communities and cultures.

He used the time to warn leaders who are hellbent on discussing ethnic politics when the country just came from a united elections where tribes did not count a lot.

“Kenya has no room for tribal or ethnic-based politics,” declared Ruto, affirming his administration’s commitment to a development-focused agenda as promised during the 2022 election campaign,” noted President William Ruto.

Ruto declared that, under his watch, the country will never experience tribalism or personality cult.

“We will never return to the politics of ethnicity or personality. We will never revert to a politics where people are not at the centre,” Ruto stated, emphasising that the 2022 General Election marked a critical shift towards issue-based politics in Kenya,” added Dr. Ruto during the Madaraka event.

He revisited the 2022 general election which he described ad free from tribalism and that it set a good record to be emulated for generations to come.

His remarks coming at a time, tension has risen up in the ruling UDA Party where members are no longer reading on the same script.

For Instance, there have been signs of a strained relationship between him and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

This week, Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala was involved in a fierce exchange with a section of UDA Party politicians especially from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley. These politicians are Oscar Sudi, Gathoni wamuchomba and Moses Kuria.
