Sunday, June 2, 2024 –Storm in the executive has continued to brew as President William Ruto and deputy openly differ on some leadership issues.
Today, President William Ruto sided with Oscar Sudi over recent utterances made by Gachagau requiring Members of Parliament to stick in their areas which they were elected to serve.
“Everyone should remain in their constituencies. Stay in your constituencies! If you have been elected in another place, why are you coming to disrupt other elected MPs? What we don’t want is political tourism,” stated Gachagua while in Kesses.
On Sunday June, Ruto said Gachagua was wring on this and that legislators have to traverse the country form one corner to another so that to help them understand the geographical areas for good oversight.
Ruto who was speaking in a church service in Kimilili Bungoma said MPs have to move around so that to understand the country well.
The commander-in-chief noted that apart from oversight role for MPs, MPs also represent and legislate and it is for this reason that it is important to allow them to move around the country freely.
“It is not a village assembly, it’s the National Assembly. So MPs, you should know you have a duty to your constituency through representation but you also have a duty to the nation through legislation and oversight.” President Ruto announced.
He, therefore, asked them to get out of their Constituencies and meet the people from different cultures this being part of the unity agenda of the Kenya Kwanza government.
“You have to get out of your constituency and go to the next place, understand Kenya so that as you legislate in Parliament, you understand your country,” stated Dr. Ruto
DP Gachagua had earlier warned MPs against movements saying the culture of political tourism was long gone.
But, a day later, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, responded to the Gachagua saying he will still move around the country because the money he is suing to fuel choppers and give to churches was his own money.
