Thursday, July 25, 2024 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has distanced himself from the ongoing relationship between government and the opposition.

Speaking Citizen Tv where he was hosted by Trevor Ombija today Thursday July 25, Lawyer Sifuna explained that members of ODM Party who have joined William Ruto’s Cabinet made such decisions privately and not in the capacity of their role in the opposition party or coalition.

MP John Mbadi.

According to the vocal Sec Gen, there was no party organ resolution made concerning the current appointments made by the president.

He noted that Mbadi or Opiyo Wandayi did not get express permission of the top party organ to join Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Let me make it clearer that myself am not ODM. John Badi by virtue of being Chairman of our party does not mean he is ODM in himself. He could have had phone call conversations with the president and probably agreed to work with the government. We won’t begrudge. But as a party, honestly, we didn’t have such a resolution,” said Sifuna.

The Nairobi senator further discussed that it remains illogical for the party members to join the Government before harmonising their two conflicting manifestos.

He wondered which manifesto will be implemented now that ODM key members are in government that only believed in the ‘failed’ bottom up approach system.

“Common sense required that the two sides first agree to repeal their conflicting manifestos and come up with one document for the people. For instance, look at a situation where I find myself sited close to Kindiki. What will we be discussing with him in the Cabinet? We have to agree on the final manifesto first,” he noted.

Sifuna was speaking this on Citizen Tv show where Trevor Ombija tasked him to explain how ODM can still deny it is not in government when it’s chairman, two deputies and the minority leader are now in the Cabinet named on Wednesday July 24 by President William Ruto.
