Friday, September 6, 2024 -Top Nairobi lawyer Donald Kipkorir wants new Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli jailed for six months.
Taking to his popular X avenue on Saturday September 6, the renowned lawyer explained why the police boss should be processed through a severe punishment for ignoring Court orders more than five times.
In his advice, Kipkorir argued that the presiding judge now can enforce warrants of arrest recently issued against the IG Masengeli and, further, jail him for a period of six months with no option of fine.
He also stated that the court has every reason to ban State prosecution from stepping foot in court until the IG starts to serve his full term in prison at Shimo la Tewa.
“High Court Judge, Justice Lawrence Mugambi has to take one for the Rule of Law by issuing Warrants of Arrest for the Police IG Gilbert Masengeli & impose 6 Months imprisonment with no option of fine.
“The Judge should also direct that Police Officers acting as Prosecutors or Witnesses can’t appear in any Court in Kenya until the IG has begun his imprisonment in Shimo La Tewa! Let justice be done, and let the chips fall where they may!”
Upto now, Police IG Gilbert Masengeli is yet to produce himself in court despite several orders requiring him to do so.
It is claimed that, at least, five court orders have since been issued against him but, instead, he has not shown up.
On diverse occasions, the IG has been sending his Lawyers to the courts to represent him on account that he is held up on other important government duties.
Masengeli is required to tell the court whereabouts of the three Kitengela brothers subducted three weeks ago by men believed to be from the police.
The three brothers were kidnapped in Kitengela by suspected DCI officers at the height of Gen Zs anti government protests.
