MCAs almost stormed out of Uhuru’s Sagana Meeting

Saturday, January 30, 2021 -Members of County Assembly who attended the Sagana State Lodge retreat which was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta almost stormed out of the meeting.

Homenews.co.ke now learns that the MCAs on Friday January 29 were not happy by a presentation from legal experts led by Tom Macharia who was urging them to support the Building Bridges Initiative BBI saying it had a lot for them.

Their anger according to the Standard, was informed by the fact that from 2017 the Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration has been promising to raise their perks but upto now nothing has been done.

They have also been demanding a strengthened Ward Development Fund WDF so that to make their work on the ground much easier but to date they have never been given an answer from the State.

It took an immediate intervention by Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho to calm them as they were continued to shout down Mr. Macharia for talking about the BBI when some of their plight had not been addressed.

A section of the MCAS went as far as threatening to kick Macharia out of the meeting and to disrupt the entire event. This is according to the Standard paper.

Was it not for Kibicho and another State House official Andrew Wakahiu, the damage would have been great. Kibicho and his colleague had to talk to their respective Speakers what then resulted into some sought of sanity.

Uhuru Kenyatta would later emerge with an approval of their car grant but refused to approve their salary perk demands.

“Today, I will speak boldly and be brutally honest from my heart about this region. We must be honest with ourselves that if you are elected, you must do what is expected of you, not politicking as I have seen today.

“Even after my term ends, I will be actively involved in politics to ensure fairness and equality for all,” Kenyatta warned MCAs from being misused.

The members would later agree to support and pass the BBI Report. The president will be spending two more days in Nyeri to meet with MPs, Senators and Governors from the area.
